How does PALIDIN work?

Knowing your customer begins with authenticating their government issued identity credential document. PALIDIN achieves this by forensically examining very high-resolution images of the ID and comparing them to templates which detail dozens of physically present security features, printing, and design techniques. In addition to forensic authentication, PALIDIN cross-checks the data from all available sources in the document to ensure that the digital encoding is accurate and that all the data matches.

Once document authentication is completed, PALIDIN then enables risk scoring and further identity validation through third party aggregators.

What tests does the software run?

PALIDIN can perform as many as 40+ forensic tests on a given document. These tests may involve utilizing infrared & ultraviolet light to examine the document, detailed mapping of microprinting and other secured printing techniques and authentication methods involving machine readable features and devices. All of this is made possible thorough comparisons with an extensive document library (over 6,000 documents templates) which contains precise information about what to look for and where to look.

Which types of IDs can it authenticate?

All components of PALIDIN are capable of authenticating ID-1 documents (e.g. “Driver’s License-Sized” documents) and ID-3 documents (Passports). ID-1 and ID-3 are internationally standardized document types governed by ICAO (the International Civil Aviation Organization).

There are over 6,000 different documents in our library, covering driver licenses, national ID cards, military ID’s, immigration and permanent residency cards, passports, and some forms of unique travel documents and visa documents.

Couldn’t I just use a data verification service instead?

As data breaches continue to rise annually, it has become increasingly easy for fraudsters to obtain valuable PII. This PII is then used to create fake identity documents. Since the information used is real stolen data, a data verification test would likely pass a fake ID, enabling the fraudster to steal from your business undetected.

Therefore, the most reliable method to verify an individual’s identity is by authenticating the presented ID itself, rather than solely relying on the data it contains.

We place a high emphasis on privacy and security by choosing not to utilize AI for ID verification and authentication. Unlike AI, which involves training machine learning models with unclear governance and data handling rules, we value transparency and control over sensitive information.

How do you protect PII data and where is it stored?

All PII data is encrypted both at rest and in storage, ensuring that sensitive information remains secure and inaccessible to unauthorized parties. Our data is stored on a Microsoft Azure hosted database, leveraging the advanced security features and infrastructure provided by Microsoft to safeguard against data breaches and unauthorized access.
